What is a VA Loan?

Writer's picture: Nichole FoxNichole Fox

VA guaranteed loans are made by private lenders, such as banks, credit unions, or mortgage companies to eligible veterans for the purchase of a home, which must be for their own personal occupancy. Veterans apply for a loan through a lender and if the loan is approved, the VA guarantees a portion of the total loan amount. This guarantee allows the veteran to obtain a competitive interest rate without having to make a down payment.

The total VA Loan amount that a veteran can be approved for depends on the property location, the entitlement available as well as credit and income factors.

One of the many advantages of this guarantee, is that the Veteran will not have to pay Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) which will help save many thousands over the life of the loan.

Please contact one of our representatives at Freedomstar Financial at 888-659-0033 for assistance in determining the loan amount you may qualify for, given the different VA Loan programs available.
